Marine Murder is a murder mystery puzzle game set in a submarine deep underwater. One of the crewmates has been murdered and it is the players job as the captain of the ship to solve the crime.
This is my second year game project which I worked on with four other students. My main roles in the project were leading the team and designing the level and the puzzles. I have also been involved with creating the story, designing characters and building 3D assets.

3D assets
For the game I made a modular kit which includes wall panels, floor tiles and a water-tight door. I also modelled and textured a code lock with pressable buttons and a table calendar.  Since this was my first time making more complex models than just cubes, the models are not that optimised. For the demo they still worked well.
Character design - Victor Silva
Victor Silva is a tired 46 year old man. He is working as a technician on the submarine B-SH4RK but hates every second of it. The long months away from his family have begun to erode his mind. He wishes to quit but cannot afford to. That is until he finds an expensive crystal during one of the submarine's exploration missions. His discovery ends up becoming his downfall when he gets murdered because of it.
This was the first character I have ever modelled so I learned a lot while making him. Thankfully he is supposed to be a corpse so I did not have to worry about making him look alive. Still the most intimidating part was the face. It could look dead, but it still had to look human and also be recognisable as the character. Getting the planes of the face took some time, but I think they ended up looking pretty good. There are still some weird creases in places.
Character design - Ethan Parsons
Ethan Parsons is a temperamental man in his early forties. He works out, not because he wants to look strong, but because he wants to be strong. In disagreements he is more used to using his physical abilities instead of talking. He has dirty blond hair and is a bit rough around the edges. He is very fond of his family because they are the closest people he knows, since he isn’t good at making friends.
As the more athletic and aggressive brother Ethan is very protective of his twin Nathan. Ethan was always the one making sure that Nathan wasn’t bullied. This system continued past their school days and when Nathan was diagnosed with cancer, Ethan decided to do anything to keep his twin alive.
Ethan is a closed off and grumpy person so I wanted that to come across from his visual appearance. I drew some poses that I thought could reflect that although some of them turned out more cocky than grumpy. I chose two silhouettes that I thought best conveyed the personality of Ethan and started refining them.
